- "Jaaz maz lopiz eyapopiz.": "That was my luggage"
in the Bocce language. [GPB]
- Jabba's Throne Room: A club on the planet Atzerri, it was almost
an exact replica of Jabba the Hutt's throne room on Tatooine, complete with
a carbonite-block imitation Han Solo hanging on the wall. [SOL]
- Jabba the Hutt: Jabba the Hutt, the notorious crimelord who ran
his organization from the planet Tatooine, was one of the major criminal kingpins
in the Outer Rim Territories. His organization was involved in a wide variety
of illegal activities, including smuggling, spice dealing, slave trading,
assassination, loan sharking, protection, and piracy. Born Jabba Desilijic
Tiure, he was raised and trained by his father, Zorba, on a private estate
on Nal Hutta. By the time he was 600 years old, Jabba had surpassed his father.
His desert palace on Tatooine, built around the ancient B'omarr monastery,
was full of decadent luxuries, an army of alien and human criminals, droid
slaves, slave dancers, and fawning servants. Every smuggler, bounty hunter,
pirate, and thief in the Outer Rim Territories eventually took on a job for
Jabba, including Han Solo and his partner, Chewbacca. In fact, it was because
of a job Solo botched that Jabba ultimately met his end. After Solo dumped
a shipment of spice to avoid an Imperial blockade, Jabba gave the smuggler
a limited time to make good on the shipment's worth. When Solo failed to return
to Tatooine to pay off his debt -- he was off helping the Rebellion -- Jabba
put a price on his head. Boba Fett eventually collected the bounty, but Solo's
Rebel companions, including Luke Skywalker, came to rescue the Corellian.
Although Skywalker's Jedi "mind tricks" did not work against Jabba,
his other abilities made short work of the crimelord's army. It was Princess
Leia, however, who killed Jabba, strangling him with the very chains he had
used to imprison her as a slave dancer. This intergalactic gangster commands an extensive criminal empire forged through years of deals, extortions, threats, bribes, murders, and other underhanded dealings. Ruthless and repulsive, Jabba oversees his far-spaced criminal network from his remote palace on Tatooine. CHARACTERS HUTT FRINGE TATOOINE [DS, ESB, GG3, MTS, RJ, SOTE, SW,

not arrive in time. General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master; Jedi Anakin Skywalker;
and ARC Trooper Alpha staged a major attack on the planet. [SWDHC]
- Jace, Bror: A human pilot from Thyferra, he made twenty-two kills
on his first five missions for Rogue Squadron. Hailing from a wealthy family,
Jace owned a major share of Zaltin Corporation stock, a bacta-producing company.
He was apparently killed while returning to his homeworld, but that was part
of an elaborate plan by the Ashern rebels working within the corporation.
He helped plan the civil war against Xucphra Corporation and the Imperial,
Ysanne Isard. Later, he fought alongside Rogue Squadron in the final battle
to defeat Isard. He was then given the task of forming the Thyferran Aerospace
Defense Forces. [BW, RS, WG]

disciplined for a lack of enthusiasm and ambition. His record showed long
stretches of mediocrity broken by brief moments of excellence. He eventually
was offered the position of second in command aboard the Carrack-class
cruiser Dominant. The short, pudgy Jamer was on the Dominant
during the events leading to the truce at Bakura. When the Imperial forces
at Bakura surrendered to the Alliance, Jamer refused to defect. [TAB, TBSB]

to provide information and was killed for his toruble. [NR]
- Jawa: Meter-tall rodentlike scavenger, they are intelligent,
smelly natives of Tatooine who constantly jabber away in their own language.
To protect themselves from Tatooine's fierce double suns, they wear coarse
cloaks with hoods that leave only their glowing eyes visible. The diminutive
Jawas travel in bands, utilizing huge, treaded sandcrawlers for shelter and
mobility. They scavenge droids and other machinery, cleaning and repairing
it to sell to moisture farmers and others. Roaming in bands, they scavenge
Tatooine for discarded droids and machinery to repair and resell. One of the
droids the Jawas show to Owen Lars during the sale of C-3P0 and R2-D2 is a
LIN mining and deomolition droid created to lay mines and perform demolition
operations. Their status is as scavengers, scrap-dealers, and traders of technological
refuse. Their weapon of choice is the Jawa ionization blaster, used to inactivate
droids. Their faces are obscurred by a cloud of insects drawn by their foul
odor. PEOPLES TATOOINE [ISWU, SW, SWCG, SWR, SWSB]

eventually caught up to him and engaged him in a fierce battle. Jax died in
the fight, and the council was thrown into chaos. [CE]
- "Jazt.": "Gas" in the Bocce language.
LANGUAGES WORDS [GPB]
- Jedcred: Slang for Jedi credit. This Corellian coin commemorated
a Jedi Master from the planet, but it became very rare and valuable following
Imperial persecution of all things related to the Jedi. Corran Horn wore one
around his neck as a good luck charm. The coin was passed down to the Rogue
Squadron pilot from his grandfather. [RS]

the mysterious order of the Prophets of the Dark Side, he assisted Supreme
Prophet Kadann in his attempt to gain control of the Empire. [MMY, PDS]
- Jedha: A small desert moon frosted by a permanent winter, Jedha was a world important to the Jedi Order as home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the Force. Now, a prolonged battle between Imperial forces and scattered Rebels carries on in Jedha’s timeworn streets. LOCATIONS MOONS [R1]
- Jedi: Jedi combine physical training with master of
the Force. Jedi concentrate on battle prowess, defense, and lightsaber training.
Additionally, they are ambassadors of the Jedi order, protecting the Republic
from all dangers. Few are strong enough in the Force and have the devotion
to walk the Jedi's path, but those few are awarded with a powerful ally. They
walk in a larger world than those who neither feel nor heed the Force. All
Jedi journey into the galaxy at large to further their own knowledge and to
help those in need. They take their responsibility seriously, considering
even mundane missions to be personal tests. Most Jedi follow the light side,
but some become darksiders and use the Force for evil or selfish intent. Those
imbued with the light side refrain from using the Force for every task, preferring
to find other solutions and save the Force for when it is truly needed. Those
who succumb to the dark side use every advantage at their disposal, wielding
the Force to solve problems as a soldier would use a blaster to destroy a
stingfly. The common skills of Jedi include: Acrobatics, endurance, initiative,
knowledge, perception, piloting, and their ability to use the Force. The Jedi's
strength flows from the Force, granting them special powers. Often, they master
the ability to feel the living Force in the world within themself. Charisma
and wisdom are important abilities for the Jedi. Following their initial student
period with the Jedi Council, a Jedi typically starts out as a Padawan learner
attached to a Jedi Master. The Jedi has a genuine desire to use the Force
to help the galaxy's people. A Jedi has a deep connection with their mentor
and the Jedi order but often operates with only tangential contact with either
master or order. Still, not all who study the Jedi arts are actually members
of the Jedi order. During the Old Sith Wars, many Sith acolytes and initiates
were often Jedi before becoming a Sith apprentice under a particular Sith
Lord. Others still might join other Force traditions with strong ties to the
Jedi arts, such as the Jensaarai. Examples of Jedi: Luke Skywalker (after
training under Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda), Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker,
Mace Windu, Bastila Shan, and Quinlan Vos. The weapon of a Jedi is the sleek
lightsaber. Often, a Jedi's first lightsaber is provided by their Master.
Later, they can build their own. [SWRPG3SE]
- Jedi battle meditation: A powerful Jedi technique, it was used
to influence the outcome of a battle by visualizing the desired result. [DLS,
TOJ, TSW]
- Jedi Code, the: The philosophy that sums up the beliefs of the
Jedi Knights, it is embodied in this credo: There is no emotion; there is
peace. There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no passion; there
is serenity. There is no death; there is the Force. A Jedi does not act for
personal power or wealth but seeks knowledge and enlightenment. A true Jedi
never acts from hatred, anger, fear, or aggression but instead acts when calm
and at peace with the Force. [SWRPG, SWRPG2, SWRPG3]
- Jedi consular: Jedi who follow the path of the consular
are skilled negotiators and talented ambassadors. They prefer to use the strength
of their words and the wisdom the Force provides in order to solve conflicts.
[SWRPG3SE]
- Jedi Council: An organization of Jedi Masters
who led the Jedi order. During the Clone Wars, Jedi Master Yoda was head of
the council. The council fell along with the Jedi order during the rise of
the Empire. [SWRPG3SE]

and designed to navigate uncharted hyperspace routes. The ship was destroyed
when the cloned Emperor's dark-side aides attacked the secret New Alderaan
settlement. [DE2]

- Jedi Holocron: A repository of Jedi knowledge and teaching, these
legendary artifacts were palm-sized glowing cubes of crystal that combined
primitive holographic technology with the Force to provide an interactive
learning device that could be activated only by a Jedi. [DE]
- Jedi Knights: Protectors of the Old Republic from its earliest
days some 25,000 years before the Galactic Civil War, they were the guardians
of justice and freedom, the most respected and powerful force for good for
more than a thousand generations. While the Jedi were known for their uncanny
abilities and supernatural skills with lightsabers, their real power came
from the ability to tap into and manipulate the Force. Jedi Knights defended
the Old Republic from all threats, including the proponents of the Clone Wars,
but there was one threat they could not stand against -- internal corruption.
The Republic itself fell to the corruption of its leaders, and the Empire
was born. Then, before the Jedi could move against him, the Emperor used one
of their own to destroy the Jedi. Through treachery, deception, and the actions
of the corrupted Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, now known as Darth Vader, the
Jedi Knighthood was exterminated. Only a few remained. One of the survivors,
a Jedi Master named Yoda, trained Luke Skywalker as the first of a new line
of Jedi Knights. After the Battle of Endor, Luke began searching the galaxy
for other Force users and started an academy to train those strong in the
Force. [COF, DA, ESB, JS, RJ, SW]
- Jedi Master: A title bestowed upon the greatest of the Jedi Knights,
those who were strong enough in the Force and patient enough to pass on their
skills by teaching a new generation. Examples: Yoda, Obi-Wan "Ben"
Kenobi, Mace Windu, Qui-Gon Jinn.[ESB]
- Jedi order: A name given to those who follow the path
of the Jedi and the light side of the Force. The Jedi order fell at the time
of the rise of the Empire. [SWRPG3SE]
- Jedi reader: A device used by the Emperor's minions to hunt down
Jedi, it revealed those who were Force-sensitive. [JS]
- Jedi sentinel: Jedi who follow the path of the sentinel
are the true enemies of the dark side, hunting down evil and stopping the
spread of darkness wherever they go. They are masters of subtlety and difficult
to tempt with the dark side, even when constantly confronted with its power.
[SWRPG3SE]
- Jedi Interceptor: Later in the Clone Wars, the Jedi
Starfighters underwent a major upgrade based on many modifications made by
Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker. The older Delta-7 models advanced into the
Aethersprite (Anakin’s modified version) and then into the ETA-2. The
ETA-2 is commonly known as the Jedi Interceptor. Also see Jedi Starfighter.
[RotS]
- Jedi Starfighter: Jedi Knights who fought in the Clone
Wars were issued Jedi Starfighters to combat the Separatist forces. Just prior
to the start of the Clone Wars, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenbobi used a Jedi Starfighter
(model Delta-7) in conjunction with a Hyperdrive Ring to follow bounty hunter
Jango Fett's Slave I. The two ships battled in an asteroid belt. The ring
provides dual hyperdrive engines with a range of 150,000 light years and was
manufactured by Transgalmeg Industries Inc. The famous Jedi Starfighters of
the Clone Wars sacrifice range for speed, using the space that would be taken
up by a hyperdrive for more powerful engines. As a result, when a Jedi must
travel long distances on his/her own, he/she must make use of a specially-designed
hyperspace transport ring. Essentially big hyperdrives without their own guidance
systems or weapons, these starship accessories give the Jedi Order nearly
unlimited range and the ability to slip in unseen where a Republic capital
ship would make an unwelcome impression. As the war progressed, advancements
and modifications were made to the starfighters. For instance, Anakin Skywalker's
modified Jedi Starfighter underwent obsessive tinkering by its pilot, which
turned this already-formidable Jedi Starfighter into one of the deadliest
vehicles in the galaxy. Engines and attitude repulsors were fine-tuned to
be so powerful and responsive that a less-skilled pilot would quickly spin
out of control, or be crushed by acceleration. So successful were Anakin's
modifications that many of them were incorporated into future models of the
Jedi Starfighter. Manufactured by Kuat Systems Engineering, this interceptor
was 8 meters long, was affiliated with the Jedi Order, and had laser cannons
and proton torpedoes. Anakin's model was a modified Delta-7, Aethersprite.
Obi-Wan's later model, toward the end of the Clone Wars, was a Kuat Systems
Engineering ETA-2 (also called a Jedi Interceptor) with a modified astromech
droid, measured 5.47 meters long, had laser and ion cannons, and was affiliated
with the Jedi Order. Never particularly comfortable with space flight, Obi-Wan
spent far less time doting over his starfighter than did many of his Jedi
colleagues, including his Padawan Anakin. Even so, the Jedi-oriented systems
complemented his methodical, even-handed approach to dog-fighting. His enhanced
reflexes and centered spirit flowed through the intuitive control interface
to reach out into the surrounding space, making man and machine a single unit,
fitting effortlessly through the firey chaos of an orbital battle. Near the
start of the Clone Wars, Kit Fisto's Jedi Starfighter was an 8-meter-long
Kuat Systems Engineering Delta-7 with laser and ion cannons and a modified
astromech droid. [AotC, CW1, CW2, RotS]
- Jedi Temple: The five-spired Jedi Temple on Coruscant is part school/part monastery and houses training facilities, medical centers and the complete Jedi Archives, possibly the largest single source of information in the galaxy. It later becomes Palpatine’s Imperial Palace. LOCATIONS CORUSCANT JEDI BUILDING [PM, AotC, RotS]

of truth." They were taught the Jedi way by people who had accepted Sith
thoughts and philosophies but who were not sufficiently developed to be initiated
into the dark ways. Luke Skywalker offered them a place in his new Jedi tradition,

traffic into and within the restricted space surrounding Endor's forest moon.
[RJN]
- Jinn, Qui-Gon: A Jedi Master who tended to follow his own ideals
and instincts rather than the orders of the Jedi Council, Qui-Gon Jinn was
60 years old at the time of the Naboo blockade. Jinn was a tall, powerfully-built
man, his long hair streaked with white and tied in a ponytail. He and his
apprentice, Jedi Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, were assigned to negotiate a peaceful
end to the Naboo blockade, but they were targeted for death by the Trade Federation
acting under the influence of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious (who would later
become Emperor Palpatine). Against the judgment of the Jedi Council, Qui-Gon
